“A Friend at All Times”
Scripture: Proverbs 17:17 (KJV) — “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
There are few things in life more powerful and life-giving than true friendship. Not the fair-weather kind that disappears when things get tough, but the kind that sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 17:17 reminds us that a real friend loves at all times not just when it’s easy or convenient. A real friend doesn’t walk away when the winds shift, or when you mess up, or when life turns dark. A real friend stays. And that kind of friendship? It’s rare. It’s holy. It’s needed now more than ever.
Being a friend at all times means showing up not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. It’s listening when someone needs to vent, praying when they’re too weak to pray for themselves, forgiving even when it stings, and staying steady through someone else’s storm. It means being the one who doesn’t bring drama but brings peace. The one who doesn’t spread gossip but speaks truth in love. The one who doesn’t bail out when the text messages stop or the energy isn’t reciprocated but leans in even more when others pull away. That’s not just friendship that’s ministry.
And if we’re honest, being a true friend will stretch you. It’ll cost you time, energy, and sometimes pride. But it also shapes you into someone more like Jesus. Jesus was and is the ultimate example of a friend who loves at all times. He wept with His friends, corrected them gently, walked with them through betrayal, and gave His life for them. If we want to model our lives after Him, we must be willing to be present for people not just when they’re strong but especially when they’re weak, confused, or hurting.
Reflection:
Ask yourself am I the kind of friend who loves at all times, or just when it suits me? Who in my life needs a steady friend right now? The world is full of people starving for loyalty, consistency, and kindness. Let’s be the kind of people who show up, speak life, and stay when it matters most.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the Friend who never leaves or forsakes me. Teach me to be a friend like You steady, faithful, and full of grace. Help me love when it’s hard, listen when it’s inconvenient, and stay when others walk away. Open my heart to see who around me needs that kind of friendship today. Let my friendships reflect Your love and bring healing where there’s been hurt. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Love you,
PJ
