Come into the Light
“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:19, NIV)
John 3:19 speaks of a profound truth about human nature and the work of Christ. Jesus, the Light of the world, came to shine in the darkness of sin and death. Yet, many reject this Light, preferring to stay in the shadows of their sinful ways. This isn’t because the Light isn’t bright enough or inviting enough it’s because the darkness is comfortable, familiar, and deceptive.
The “verdict” John speaks of isn’t an arbitrary judgment; it’s a reflection of our choices. The Light exposes the reality of our sin, and with it, the need for repentance. For some, this exposure is too much to bear. Instead of turning to the Light and embracing its warmth and truth, they cling to the shadows, fearing what might be revealed.
But here’s the hope: even though humanity has a tendency to choose darkness, the Light remains steadfast. Jesus continues to call us out of the shadows and into His marvelous light, offering forgiveness, freedom, and transformation. His love never fades, even in the face of rejection.
This verse challenges us to examine our hearts. Are there areas in our lives where we still cling to darkness? Are we hiding sins, habits, or fears that we don’t want to bring into the Light? Jesus invites us to step out in faith, trusting that His Light is not here to condemn us but to heal and restore us.
1. Examine Your Heart: Spend time in prayer asking God to reveal any areas of your life where you might still be clinging to darkness.
2. Choose Transparency: Confess your sins to God, trusting in His forgiveness and grace (1 John 1:9).
3. Be a Light: As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His Light to others. Let your actions and words point others to the hope and truth found in Jesus.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, the Light of the world, to bring hope and salvation to us. I confess that there are times when I’ve chosen darkness over Your Light. Forgive me for the sins I’ve hidden and help me to step fully into Your truth. Shine through me so that others may see Your love and be drawn to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love you,
PJ
