A word from PJ

Guarding Our Words

“A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.” - Proverbs 11:13 (NIV)

In our daily lives, it’s easy to fall into the habit of talking about others when they’re not around. It may start as a simple comment, a harmless observation, or a joke, but soon it can become gossip. The Bible warns us about the power of our words and the harm that gossip can bring. When we speak about someone behind their back, we risk betraying trust, spreading falsehoods, and damaging relationships.

As Christians, we are called to a higher standard. Our words should build up, encourage, and bring grace to those who hear them. Instead of speaking negatively about others, let’s choose to uplift them. If we see a fault or issue, let’s address it directly with kindness and truth, rather than allowing it to become fodder for gossip.

Are there times when you’ve been tempted to speak about someone in a negative way when they weren’t present? What can you do today to guard your words and ensure they bring life and grace?

Lord, help me to use my words wisely. Teach me to speak with love, kindness, and truth, and to avoid the trap of gossip. Let my words reflect Your grace, bringing peace and encouragement to those around me. Amen.

Love you,

PJ
