A Word from PJ

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV)

Two of the seven abominations mentioned in Proverbs 6 involve dishonesty: "a lying tongue" and "a false witness who pours out lies." Why does God hate lying so much? Because truth is foundational to God's character. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). When we speak truth, we align ourselves with God's nature. When we lie, we participate in deception, which is the work of the enemy, described as the "father of lies" (John 8:44).

Lies damage trust, destroy relationships, and lead to injustice. Whether it’s a lie told out of convenience or a false testimony that harms others, both bring chaos and discord. Honesty, on the other hand, builds up the body of Christ and strengthens relationships. In our daily lives, even small lies can lead to larger consequences. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His truth in all we say and do.

Take a moment to examine your heart and words. Are there any areas where dishonesty has crept in? Ask God for the strength to speak the truth, even when it’s hard, and to reject the temptation to lie.

Love you,

PJ
