Speaking with Grace - Giving Your Opinion
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” — Colossians 4:6 (NIV)
In today’s world, we’re often encouraged to share our opinions openly and frequently. Social media platforms and daily conversations give us plenty of opportunities to voice our views. But as Christians, we’re called to a higher standard when it comes to expressing our thoughts. Giving an opinion is not simply about stating what we believe; it’s also about how we share it. Our words should reflect the love, grace, and wisdom of Christ.
When we share our thoughts, we have a choice to build others up or to tear them down. Colossians 4:6 reminds us that our words should be “full of grace,” carrying a kindness and humility that reflects Jesus. This doesn’t mean we avoid sharing hard truths, but rather that we consider the impact of our words, aiming to encourage rather than discourage, to uplift rather than belittle.
Think of each interaction as an opportunity to shine God’s light. When others witness your gentleness and respect, even in challenging conversations, they see a glimpse of Christ in you. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes the way we speak carries as much impact as the content of our words.
The next time you’re prompted to share your opinion, take a moment to pause and pray. Ask God to guide your words and to help you speak with wisdom and grace. Reflect on whether your words align with Christ’s love and if they honor those around you.
Lord, thank You for the gift of communication and for the ability to share my thoughts with others. Teach me to speak in a way that reflects Your love and wisdom. When I share my opinion, help me to do so with grace, humility, and a desire to build others up. Let my words be a testament to Your presence in my life, bringing light to every conversation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love you,
PJ
