Surviving Evil People
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21 (NIV)
In our journey through life, we inevitably encounter people who seem determined to cause harm, whether through words, actions, or attitudes. These encounters can challenge our faith and resilience. However, God equips us with the strength to face such people without letting bitterness take root in our hearts.
Surviving in the presence of evil requires that we keep our focus on Christ. When we’re grounded in His truth and love, we can resist the urge to repay harm with harm. Instead, we lean into the power of grace, treating others with kindness even when they act undeservingly. This doesn’t mean allowing harmful behavior to continue unchecked. There are times to establish boundaries and protect ourselves. But we are called to respond with love, even if that love is shown through tough grace.
God is our defender, and He sees all things. We can trust that He will handle what we cannot. Our role is to rise above the pull of vengeance, remaining steadfast in His peace. By doing so, we’re not just surviving; we’re growing closer to Him, letting His goodness shine through us.
Consider someone in your life who has acted hurtfully. How can you respond in a way that reflects God’s love without compromising your boundaries? Ask God for the strength to overcome evil with good, and trust Him to guide your heart.
Father, give me the strength to rise above the actions of those who intend harm. Help me to respond with love and grace, reflecting Your goodness in all I do. Guard my heart from bitterness, and give me wisdom in setting boundaries that honor You. Amen.
Love you,
PJ
