A Word from PJ

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3 (ESV)

There’s a deep seated human desire to be acknowledged and praised for our efforts. Whether at work, in ministry, or even at home, we like to be recognized when we contribute. While appreciation is important, constantly needing credit for what we do can lead to pride and self-centeredness.

Jesus set a different example. Though He was the Son of God, He didn’t seek applause or recognition for His miracles, teachings, or even His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Instead, He pointed everything back to the Father, giving Him the glory. If Jesus didn’t seek credit, why should we?

When we crave recognition, it often comes from a place of insecurity or pride. We want to feel validated. However, our worth isn’t found in human approval, but in Christ. God sees our efforts, and His approval is far greater than any applause we could receive from others.

The Bible calls us to live in humility, considering others above ourselves. This means serving joyfully, even when no one is watching, and even when others get the credit. When we surrender the need for recognition, we free ourselves to focus on God’s glory rather than our own.

Is there an area in your life where you’ve been seeking recognition or praise? How can you shift your focus from receiving credit to giving God the glory?

My Prayer: Lord, help me to serve with a heart of humility. Remind me that my value comes from You, not from the recognition of others. Teach me to find joy in serving, even when no one sees, and to always point the glory back to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Love you,

PJ
