The Power of Humility
Scripture:
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” – James 4:10
Reflection:
Humility is a characteristic that God values deeply. It’s not about thinking less of ourselves but about thinking of ourselves less. True humility acknowledges our dependence on God and seeks to serve others above ourselves. James 4:10 reminds us that when we humble ourselves before the Lord, He will lift us up in His perfect timing and way.
Jesus is the ultimate example of humility. Although He was equal with God, He did not consider His equality something to be used to His advantage. Instead, He humbled Himself, taking on human form and becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8). This act of humility was not weakness but a demonstration of His strength, love, and obedience to the Father.
In our daily lives, humility may mean letting go of pride, admitting when we’re wrong, or putting someone else’s needs before our own. It’s an invitation to trust God’s plan over our own and to walk in His grace and strength. Humility brings freedom because it shifts the focus away from ourselves and onto God’s greatness and provision.
Challenge:
This week, look for an opportunity to practice humility in your relationships. Maybe it’s apologizing to someone you’ve wronged, serving a family member in a way that requires sacrifice, or choosing to listen rather than speak. Reflect on how this act of humility draws you closer to God and to others.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the perfect example of humility that Jesus displayed. Help me to humble myself before You and to live in a way that reflects Your character. Teach me to serve others selflessly, trusting that You will lift me up in Your time. Let my life bring You glory as I walk in humility and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love you,
PJ
