“The Quiet Before the Storm”

Wednesday of Holy Week

Scripture:

“Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.” – Luke 22:1-2 (NIV)

Wednesday of Holy Week has often been referred to as Silent Wednesday. Compared to the triumph of Palm Sunday, the intensity of Monday and Tuesday’s temple cleansings and confrontations, and the heart wrenching events that begin Thursday, Wednesday is oddly still. Quiet. Almost too quiet.

But just because it’s quiet doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Behind closed doors, schemes were forming. Judas was meeting with the religious leaders. Plans were being made to betray Jesus not with violence, but with a kiss. This was the calm before the storm.

In our own lives, we often underestimate the power of the “quiet days.” Days where nothing seems to be happening externally can be the very moments where decisions are made that alter everything. Wednesday teaches us that silence doesn’t always mean peace. Sometimes silence is where the enemy plots, and where God’s purpose prepares to unfold.

Jesus didn’t panic on Wednesday. He didn’t rush the plan or try to stop what was coming. He stayed faithful, even in the stillness, because He trusted the timing of His Father.

You may be in a “Wednesday season” right now a time where it feels like nothing is moving, but you sense something stirring beneath the surface. Don’t let the silence fool you. God is still in control. He sees the betrayals that are brewing. He knows the heartache that’s coming. But He also knows the resurrection that’s waiting on the other side.

Reflection:

Are you in a silent season, waiting for God to move? Are you tempted to think He’s forgotten you just because the noise has faded? Take heart. On Silent Wednesday, Jesus was never more focused. Neither is your Father. The silence is not abandonment, it’s preparation.

Prayer:

Father, in the quiet moments when I feel forgotten or overlooked, help me to remember that You are still working behind

Love you,

PJ
