A Word from PJ

The Thursday of Holy Week

Scripture: John 13:14-15 (NIV)

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”

It was Thursday.

The crowd was gone. The parade had passed. The palm branches were long since trampled underfoot. The noise of the city had settled into a darker tension. Jesus knew what was coming. The cross was close. But before Friday’s pain, before Sunday’s glory Thursday came with a quiet weight.

It was the night of the Last Supper, the moment where time stood still in the upper room. Jesus sat with His disciples not just followers, but friends. He broke bread and passed the cup, saying words they wouldn’t fully understand until the stone rolled away.

But maybe the most striking moment wasn’t what He said, but what He did.

The Son of God knelt down. The Savior who had healed the blind, walked on water, and calmed storms wrapped a towel around His waist and washed the dirt off their feet.

Even Judas.

This is Thursday.

It’s the day of humility. The day of love in action. The day Jesus showed us that greatness is not found in power but in serving. He washed the feet of the one who would betray Him, and He didn’t skip Peter, the one who would deny Him. He loved them all, even through their flaws.

Can you imagine that scene?

The King of Kings on His knees, wiping away grime and shame. It wasn’t just about dusty feet it was a symbol of the cleansing He would offer through the cross.

Too many of us want the crown, but we skip the towel. We want the title, but we dodge the basin. Thursday calls us to remember that to truly follow Jesus, we must be willing to kneel.

Reflection:

This Holy Thursday, ask yourself: Am I more concerned with being served than serving? Have I picked and chosen who I think is “worthy” of my kindness, rather than loving like Jesus loved even when it’s hard?

Maybe today is your Thursday. Maybe you’re in the quiet before the storm, feeling the weight of what’s coming. But even here there’s purpose. Jesus shows us that love prepares the way for sacrifice, and humility unlocks the power of Heaven.

Don’t wait for Friday to worship. Don’t wait for Sunday to believe. Worship Him in the upper room moments. Follow His example love deeply, serve freely, and forgive radically.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the towel. Thank You for the table. Thank You for the cross. On this Thursday of Holy Week, help me kneel like You knelt. Help me love like You loved. Teach me the power of serving others, even those who’ve hurt me. Let my heart stay soft, and my hands stay open. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Love you,

PJ
