When You Experience Deep Hurt
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
Hurt is something none of us can escape. It comes in different forms—betrayal from a friend, rejection from someone we love, the loss of a dream we held onto so tightly. There are moments when the weight of pain feels unbearable, when we wonder if healing will ever come, and when we cry out to God asking, Why did this happen?
Maybe you’re in that place right now. Maybe you’ve prayed for relief, but the hurt lingers. Maybe you’ve tried to push past it, only to have it creep back in when you least expect it. The truth is, deep hurt isn’t something we can simply ignore or rush through. It requires healing, and real healing comes from the Lord.
David, the writer of Psalm 34, knew what it meant to hurt. He was hunted by Saul, betrayed by people he trusted, and suffered the consequences of his own failures. Yet, in his pain, he declared this truth: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
God doesn’t stand at a distance, watching our suffering from afar. He draws near. He wraps us in His presence. He sits with us in our sorrow, and He walks with us through our healing. When our spirit is crushed, He doesn’t leave us to pick up the pieces alone He is our rescuer, our restorer, and the one who binds up our wounds.
Healing doesn’t always come overnight. It’s a process. But as we bring our brokenness to Jesus, He begins to do what only He can restore, renew, and redeem. He takes the pain and turns it into purpose. He takes the wounds and uses them to bring wisdom. He takes the suffering and somehow brings beauty from it.
So if you’re hurting today, take heart. You are not alone. God is near. He sees every tear, hears every prayer, and knows every unspoken ache in your heart. He is working, even when you don’t see it. Trust Him to heal you in His perfect time, and in the meantime, let His presence be your comfort.
Reflection:
• What area of your heart is hurting the most right now?
• Have you allowed yourself to bring your pain honestly before God?
• How can you remind yourself today that God is near to the brokenhearted?
Prayer:
Father, I come to You with a heavy heart, knowing that You are close to the brokenhearted. You see my pain, and You know the depth of my hurt. Help me to trust You with my healing. Remind me that I am never alone, that You are always near, and that You are working all things for my good. Bring comfort where there is sorrow, strength where there is weakness, and hope where there is despair. Thank You for Your love that never fails. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love you,
PJ
